GOLDEN, Colo.—Authorities say a police officer who shot a robbery suspect in a Black Hawk casino parking garage used appropriate force.

Sgt. Kenneth Lloyd wounded Randy Steven Keesee April 3 during the search for a man suspected of robbing Central City’s Famous Bonanza Casino. Keesee was treated at a hospital and is being held on suspicion of aggravated robbery and attempted first-degree murder of an officer.

First Judicial District Attorney Scott Storey says Lloyd was justified in shooting Keesee.

Police say Lloyd approached Keesee after seeing a yellow straw fedora that was worn by the robbery suspect. Lloyd fired his gun at Keesee after he allegedly pointed a gun at an officer.

Keesee is being held on $1 million bail.
