ASPEN — Eric Kinsman, 66, the ski patrol director for Aspen Mountain, died suddenly of heart failure Monday afternoon near Teasdale, Utah, the Aspen Skiing Co. said.

Kinsman had worked for the Skico since 1969, starting as an instructor for children at the Snowmass Ski School. After more than a decade there, he transferred to Aspen Mountain as an assistant to the patrol director and eventually took the top spot on the ski patrol in 2004.

Kinsman was a dedicated mountain sports enthusiast and outdoorsman, said Skico spokesman Jeff Hanle on Tuesday.

“Eric epitomized the concept of the complete life where mind, body and spirit are enriched,” Hanle said in a press release. “An avid skier, cyclist and hiker, Eric was passionate about all the outdoor activities he participated in. He took to snowboarding before it was permitted on his home mountain, and truly appreciated the desert and mountain environments.”
