GEORGETOWN, Colo.—Clear Creek sheriff’s deputes have arrested a rafting guide for jumping in and swimming to a girl who had fallen out of his boat.

Clear Creek Sheriff Don Krueger says Ryan Snodgrass with the Arkansas Valley Adventures rafting company has been charged with obstructing government operations. Krueger says Snodgrass jeopardized the rescue by jumping into the water after he was told not to.

Duke Bradford, the rafting company owner, says Snodgrass did the right thing by not waiting for the county’s search and rescue team to assemble ropes, rafts and rescuers.

The raft Snodgrass was guiding flipped on Clear Creek Thursday and the 13-year-old girl swam from the raft. Krueger says the girl was missing for 30 to 45 minutes while Snodgrass looked for her.
