A 59-year-old Lakewood man who was severely burned in a townhome fire has died of his injuries.

Robert Michael Loveridge died late Tuesday of injuries suffered in a fire at 1541 S. Owens St., according to a media release from the West Metro Fire Protection District.

Loveridge suffered third-degree burns over 80 percent of his body. Investigators believe a lit cigarette burned a couch and started the fire, West Metro said.

Firefighters pulled Loveridge from the fire at about 1 p.m. Tuesday, but he died later that night at University of Colorado Hospital in Aurora.
