LONGMONT — Longmont hearts Google.
That’s the message dozens of Longmont residents plan to spell out in the parking lot of Silver Creek High School today.
Dozens of residents plan to use their bodies to form a red heart that will rest between the words “Longmont” and “Google,” spelled out by 82 or so cars. A DigitalGlobe satellite passing overhead between 12:27 and 12:29 p.m. today should be able to photograph the scene.
Organizers hope the photo will boost the chances that Mountain View, Calif.-based Google will choose Longmont over thousands of other cities to test a speedy Internet service.
Longmont resident and radio-show host Tom Sheffield is among organizers of the stunt. He’s still recruiting cars. In a recent story, Longmont officials noted that the city owns its own electric utility, giving Google easy access to infrastructure it may need to roll out the service. The Associated Press
