COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—Medical marijuana shops are up for debate in a town hall meeting Thursday in Colorado Springs.
City and county officials want to know whether residents want to shutter more than 100 dispensaries estimated to be in the area. A recent state law allows local governments to ban dispensaries.
Marijuana activists have vowed lawsuits over any bans, saying that patients have a constitutional right not just to pot but to a place to buy pot. The Boulder County town of Superior has already banned marijuana shops, and Vail officials are moving toward a ban.
Some Colorado Springs residents are seeking a ballot proposal to ban pot shops, but local officials haven’t decided whether to ban dispensaries outright.
