BOULDER, Colo.—The Red Lion Restaurant has installed a temporary bridge to replace one recently washed out by flooding on Boulder Creek, forcing some wedding parties to quickly find other accommodations.

The restaurant spent Thursday night laying down a steel overpass made from modified railroad flatcar steel in time for weddings this weekend. The private bridge to the 47-year-old restaurant in Boulder Canyon collapsed June 8 under pressure from the snowmelt-swollen creek.

With no bridge, the Red Lion had to relocate four weddings last weekend.

The owners had said the restaurant might have to close if Boulder County wouldn’t share the cost of a new bridge. Now, owner Chris Mueller says he’ll pay for a permanent fix out of his retirement fund.
