LARAMIE, Wyo.—A car struck and killed a Colorado woman on a southern Wyoming highway after she ran out of gas and walked into traffic.
The Wyoming Highway Patrol says 49-year-old Sheila Deibler of Fort Collins apparently ran out of fuel Monday night as she was driving north on U.S. Highway 287.
Deibler pulled over to the side of the road and turned off all her vehicle lights, according to a patrol news release.
Deibler walked into the highway’s northbound lane, where she was struck by Tobias Ackerman of Fort Collins.
The patrol says Ackerman’s car left the roadway, and he was taken to Ivinson Memorial Hospital in Laramie with unspecified injuries. A hospital spokeswoman says he was no longer at the hospital on Tuesday.
The patrol says an investigation is ongoing.
