When the last kid left for college, Randy and Kristy Shepler got serious about getting rid of the yard work on their Highlands Ranch home, in favor of something more fun and urban–but downtown looked a little TOO urban. “I didn’t want quite that much stimulus,” Kristy Shepler said, looking out at a sunset view from their new penthouse in Dry Creek Crossing, two blocks from Dry Creek Light Rail station.
The Sheplers moved in a month ago, leaving only three remaining rooftop terraces at Dry Creek Crossing, including one where you’ll enjoy a champagne brunch today. “This is like urban meets suburban,” says Dry Creek Crossing’s Jamie Helle, who’ll join Mimi Sturtevant in welcoming you. “You still get some of the feel of a suburban home.”
That worked for Kristy Shepler, who previewed more locations after she and Randy decided that downtown didn’t work for them. “This is the one we kept coming back to,” she recalls now. “I knew it would be his cup of tea.”
After all, Randy Shepler had been riding Light Rail to his investment banking job in downtown for the past seven years. “For the price, the value, the amenities, everything we saw was compared to this,” he said as we opened a bottle of wine on the 500-foot deck, with firepit and party-sized seating area. “The deck was the clincher for us; we’ll be out here in the winter too,” Kristy added, noting that they also get an indoor loft/lounge area, and plenty of space on the main level for her graphic design studio.
There were two other clinchers for the Sheplers: The price (the last three penthouse/deck units are from $348,900–double the value, Randy says, of what they saw in LoDo); and a contingency offer on selling their old place. Helle and Sturtevant can tell you about that today; and show you a handful of other homes still available….
…Including a few remaining 1-bedroom (from $189,000) and 2-bedrooms; a 3-bedroom at only $274,000 that has some thru-views to the ridges southwest of town; and a final premium-penthouse (2,200 feet plus separate decks with east and west views, ready for custom finishes to your specs) at $750,000. You’ll also see amenities that go well beyond what surrounding projects offer: pool, fitness center, hot tub, and common areas that lure very friendly residents and their dogs.
“You’re not going to find anything else like this, the amenities, the underground parking,” says developer Michael Lastowski (he already has his own rooftop deck in Dry Creek Crossing). Brunch today is 10-4; take I-25 to Dry Creek, west a block to Chester and south to Panorama.
