A 130,000-square-foot office building along Interstate 25 in Centennial has sold and will be torn down.

Los Angeles-based Cityview paid $20 million last week for the 7400 S. Alton Ct property, according to public records.

The property is just over 14 acres and includes an office building previously used by S&P Global. That firm, which didn’t respond to a request for comment, was the seller in last week’s deal. It now operates in Inverness in Douglas County.

Cityview has applied for a permit to demolish the building. The firm wants to build 450 residential units — 385 apartments and 65 townhomes — at the site, according to plans submitted to the city. Townhomes would be three stories, while the apartments would be in multiple four-story buildings, records indicate.

The Centennial City Council voted in February to rezone the property at Cityview’s request. The area is within Midtown Centennial, an area dominated by office parks that the city believes can gradually become more of a mixed-use, walkable area.

Cityview also owns the Deco apartment building at 2180 S. Colorado Blvd. in Denver.

The office building on Alton Court will be the second in Centennial to be demolished to make way for apartments. The former Arrow Electronics building at 9201 E. Dry Creek Road came down last year after being purchased for $12.25 million by Arapahoe County-based Consolidated Investment Group, which will build a 325-unit project.
