ELKO, Nev.—(AP)—A sheriff’s official says a 49-year-old Colorado man apparently hanged himself at the Elko County jail while being held on identity theft, drug possession and fugitive warrant charges.

Elko County Undersheriff Doug Gailey said James Allen Duhon of Colorado Springs, Colo., was found a little before 8:30 p.m. Wednesday hanged by a piece of bed sheet looped over a conduit.

Gaily said Duhon claimed to have been experiencing heroin withdrawal, and met with a doctor before being placed in an isolation cell.

Elko police Lt. Richard Genseal says Duhon was stopped Saturday on a motorcycle vehicle infraction, and was arrested after providing a false name to police.

He was held pending a court appearance on local charges and drug and habitual criminal warrants issued in El Paso County, Colo.
