Fort Collins police say an SUV was going nearly 90 mph when it crashed into a building Wednesday, killing two people.

Alcohol is still suspected as well.

The crash happened about 4 a.m. on Wednesday, near the intersection of South Lemay Avenue and East Elizabeth Street, according to a Fort Collins Police Department media release.

Police said a late-model Ford Expedition was heading south on Lemay at 87 mph, when the woman who was driving lost control.

The posted speed limit on Lemay is 35 mph.

The SUV spun clockwise off the road and hit a retaining wall before coming to a stop against an office building.

“Both the driver and passenger were ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene,” police said.

The two were identified as Nicole Martinez, 26, who was driving, and her boyfriend, Francisco Ulibarri, 23, both of Fort Collins.

Ulibarri was found on the ground outside the Expedition and Martinez was found on the roof of the the office building at 1090 E. Elizabeth St., police said.

Through interviews, police believe Martinez had been drinking at bars that night. Her blood alcohol tests are still pending.

Police have also confirmed that Martinez and Ulibarri were not wearing seat belts.

Ulibarry and Martinez have three children. Other family members were taking care of the three children at the time of the accident.
