A man driving a brown sports car crossed the Interstate 70 median west of Glenwood Springs and slammed head-on into a red pick-up truck, killing himself and seriously injuring two people in the pickup.
The two in the pickup were rushed to Valley View Hospital in Glenwood Springs in serious condition following the 7:14 a.m. accident, said Trooper Heather Cobler of the Colorado State Patrol.
The man, who was in the brown sports car, was pronounced dead at the scene. The identities of all three people in the accident have not been released.
“We’ll hope the best for the two occupants of the truck,” Cobler said.
A few minutes before the collision, CSP received multiple calls from people complaining about a man driving recklessly on Eastbound I-70, Cobler said.
The accident happened midway between Glenwood Springs and New Castle, a few miles west of where the complaints came from.
The man in the sports car crossed over the median and struck the red Ford F-150 pickup in the westbound lanes, Cobler said.
Westbound I-70 remains closed while troopers investigate and clear the accident scene, she said. The eastbound lanes are open, she said.
