LONGMONT — A 43-year-old man living at a Westminster hotel was arrested Tuesday after persuading a 93-year-old Longmont woman to pay him thousands of dollars for unsolicited yard work, police said.

Ollie Eddington was arrested on suspicion of “wrongs to at-risk adults” and theft of $1,000 to $20,000. Longmont police said Eddington invited himself into the woman’s backyard June 11 and tried to convince her he was there to repair her roof.

When she told him she didn’t believe him, he offered to trim her trees instead, police said. The woman agreed to let him trim several trees, and after cutting four to six small branches, he told her she owed him $2,400, according to police.

When she resisted, he reduced the price to $2,200, and the woman wrote him a check because she felt scared, police said.

Eddington, who was on probation in Georgia after being convicted of exploiting the elderly, is being held on $50,000 bail at the Boulder County Jail.
