VAIL, Colo.—A developer proposing a biomass facility in Vail is reviewing its funding options after losing out on more than $20 million in federal grants June 30.
The U.S. Department of Energy selected six projects to receive a total of $21 million for heat and power technology development, but the Vail project wasn’t chosen.
The town of Vail had been working with Andrew King of Hayden, Cary and King Co. on a proposal to turn beetle-killed pine trees in local forests into energy.
King says he plans to work with the town, private investors, the U.S. Forest Service, Holy Cross Energy and other stakeholders to identify other potential funding opportunities. Options include seeking other federal grants or federally guaranteed loans.
