The Nuggets, having struck out thus far in free agency, are after another reserve big man, this time former Knick Al Harrington, a league source said Tuesday afternoon.

Harrington, 30, averaged 17.7 points and 5.6 rebounds in Mike D’Antoni’s fast-paced system in New York last season. The 6-foot-9 forward is interested in numerous teams, including Dallas, the source said. But the Nuggets could be a good fit for Harrington because Denver’s frontcourt of Nene, Kenyon Martin and Chris Andersen is injury-prone, with the latter two players in their 30s.

ESPN reported that Dallas is targeting Harrington for their mid-level exception, which is $5.765 million.

The Nuggets thought perhaps they could woo Udonis Haslem with their mid-level exception, but Haslem, as expected, re-signed with the Heat on Monday. Chicago’s Brad Miller is also a possibility.

As for Harrington, who went pro out of high school and has averaged 14.1 points per game in his career, a source said he will make his decision “soon.”
