Lafayette Mayor Chris Cameron unexpectedly announced her resignation today, becoming the second member of the city council to call it quits this month.
Her departure, effective Friday, will draw down the membership on the council from seven to five by the start of the weekend.
City leaders were quick to point out that the resignations of Cameron, who has been mayor since 2007, and her former colleague Kerry Bensman, who left the council July 3 after seven years in office, in no way indicated a breakdown in elected leadership in Lafayette.
