The Denver district attorney’s office has declined to file criminal charges against 62-year-old Filberto Alderete in connection with the shooting death of Jesus Sifuentes Jr. early Sunday.

The district attorney’s office said Tuesday that Alderete’s claim he acted in self-defense, shooting Sifuentes as he forced his way into Alderete’s home, could not be disproved beyond a reasonable doubt.

Police responding to the scene found Sifuentes, 36, dead on the front porch of the Alderete home in the 3400 block of West 18th Avenue.

As police attempted to reach Sifuentes, Jackson said, they encountered Filberto Alderete’s grandson, Daniel Alderete, holding a gun. Jackson said an officer fired a single shot at Daniel Alderete after he allegedly refused to put down the gun.

Alderete, 25, was taken to Denver Health Medical Center in fair condition.
