CRAIG — Three new wildfires are burning in northwestern Colorado, including a 2-acre fire at Dinosaur National Monument that’s being allowed to burn.
Fire information officer Lynn Barclay says all three wildfires were likely caused by lightning strikes from storms that moved through the area earlier this week.
Heavy air tankers were dropping fire retardant on a 100-acre fire that is burning about 20 miles west of Maybell, while another 50 firefighters battle the fire on the ground.
Meanwhile, a crew of 20 firefighters was searching for a safe route to a quarter-acre wildfire burning on steep terrain about 3 miles north of Meeker.
