One hiker died and another was injured Sunday in North Cheyenne Canyon Park in Colorado Springs.
Steve Sparry, a spokesman for El Paso County Search and Rescue, said the hiker who died fell 300 feet off Mount Cutler. Sparry said it is believed the other person was injured trying to reach his friend.
The almost vertical rocks put the hiker in danger, and crews took more than two hours to rescue the climber and recover the body.
Crews responded about 5 p.m. when they received a call from a cellphone about two injured hikers who needed help. When firefighters arrived, one of the hikers was already dead, said Lt J.J. Halsey.
The names of the hikers were not immediately released.
