ISLAMABAD — A passenger jet carrying 152 people crashed early today in the hills surrounding Pakistan’s capital, officials said. Rescuers were slowed by rain and difficult roads.

The cause of the Airblue crash was not clear, said Pervez George, a civil aviation official. He said the flight from Karachi to Islamabad was trying to land in bad weather.

“The plane was about to land at the Islamabad airport when it lost contact with the control tower . . . ,” he said.

Guards with the forestry service found five bodies and some wreckage, a police official said.
