State Rep. Karen Middleton nixed her re-election bid this week.
The Aurora Democrat, who has accepted a new political job, said she will serve out her term through the November election. She said she can’t name her new employer yet.
Middleton was appointed to the House seat in 2008.
Among those looking to be named the Democratic nominee in House District 42 is Rhonda Fields, 56, who has been in the public eye since her son and his fiancee were slain.
Javad Marshall-Fields and Vivian Wolfe were murdered June 20, 2005. He was scheduled to tell a jury how drug dealers showed up at a party and killed his friend.
Sean Bradley, who worked as an aide to Andrew Romanoff at the Capitol and now is with the American Federation for Children, a national education-reform group, also has expressed interest in the seat. A House Democratic vacancy committee will meet Aug. 7 to pick a nominee for the race.
