A 21-year-old Colorado Springs woman was killed when the SUV she was traveling in rolled over Tuesday night north of Monument.
Whitney Jewel died at the scene of the crash, which happened about 10:45 p.m. on Interstate 25 about five miles north of Monument.
Whitney Jewel was the only person killed in the crash Tuesday night near Monument, according to the Colorado State Patrol. The agency had originally said that two people were killed in the crash, though that information was incorrect, according to Trooper Heather Cobler.
The crash happened when a GMC Yukon going north on I-25 drifted off the left side of the road about five miles north of Monument. As it traveled into the center median, the driver overcorrected and rolled over in the roadway, Cobler said.
The other three people in the vehicle — all teenagers — were taken to Penrose Hospital. A 16-year-old male suffered serious injuries in the crash. The 19-year-old female driver, Lauren Jewel, a 13-year-old passengersuffered moderate injuries.
Drugs or alcohol are not suspected in the crash, Cobler said.
Everyone in the vehicle was wearing a seatbelt.
