The White Sox and Tigers have called about Brad Hawpe. So too did the Padres before acquiring Miguel Tejada. In the ideal world, Hawpe would be carrying the Rockies’ offense, not somebody else’s. Showing signs of breaking out of his slump, Hawpe homered for the second time in three games. Hawpe has seven homers, all solos.
Catching heat.
Miguel Olivo had a nasty red mark on his left elbow after being struck by a swinging bat Wednesday, but he delivered two hits Thursday. Olivo is batting .390 at Coors Field.
Center of attention.
The Rockies caught a break when Pirates center fielder Andrew McCutchen was a late scratch with a sore right shoulder. McCutchen put on a jaw-dropping defensive display in the first two games.
