PALISADE, Colo.—Enough Palisade voters have signed a petition to try to recall their mayor on accusations that he “continues to flaunt his power.”

Town Clerk Carol Speakman says the next step is to set a recall election date if there are no challenges to the petition by Aug. 6. Petitioners needed 103 valid signatures for the recall attempt.

The people who want to oust Mayor Dave Walker say they’re doing so because he allegedly threatened to close a bar called “The Livery Saloon” after a confrontation with a political opponent. Walker later called the opponent a “brain-damaged candidate” who belongs to a group of “low-life Livery drunks.”

Walker says the recall petition is full of lies.
