CHEHALIS, Wash—The Lewis County sheriff’s office says the badly decomposed body found Wednesday in Riffe Lake may be that of a 49-year-old man wanted for murder in Denver.

The sheriff’s office says that detectives found identification in a backpack next to the body. Authorities have not made positive identification, but the say the Denver man’s vehicle was found near the Blue Lake campground, outside Randle in April.

Authorities say the Denver man is wanted in connection with the death of his girlfriend in March.

The Lewis County coroner is working to identify the man and determine a cause of death.
