The Mountain West Conference granted a medical hardship waiver Friday to Colorado State basketball guard Jesse Carr, who averaged 8.8 points in 25 games as a true freshman in 2008-09. The waiver means Carr will be a redshirt sophomore this season.

Carr missed the final six games of his freshman season with a hip injury and played in four games last December, but he aggravated the injury and did not play again. Carr led the Rams with 63 assists as a freshman.

Rapids trade for FC Dallas defender.

The Rapids acquired defender Anthony Wallace in a trade with FC Dallas in exchange for Colorado’s fourth-round 2011 SuperDraft pick and a conditional 2012 SuperDraft selection. Wallace has not started this season for Dallas and has played 16 minutes in two appearances. The Rapids host FC Dallas at 2 p.m. today.

Mammoth re-signs four key players.

The Colorado Mammoth re-signed defenseman and team captain John Gallant and three key veteran offensive players — Brian Langtry, Jed Prossner and Derek Malawsky.

Prossner, a restricted free agent, signed a two-year deal. The others signed one-year contracts. Fan favorite Langtry is returning for his ninth season with the Mammoth.

Longmont rider wins BMX world title.

Collin Hudson, a 13-year-old from Longmont, won his age-group world title at the UCI BMX World Championships in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, on Thursday. It was Hudson’s first title after a third place in 2007 and runner-up finishes the past two years.

Wyatt Bell of Berthoud finished third in the 8-year-old boys group.

Winter Park lands U.S. championships.

The U.S. Alpine Ski Championships will return to Winter Park Resort next spring for the first time since the early 1990s.

The men’s and women’s downhill will be contested in Aspen on Feb. 16, then Winter Park will host the remaining races from March 31-April 3.

Condon 19th in Pacific Coast Amateur.

Greg Condon of Monte Vista finished 19th at the Pacific Coast Amateur golf tournament at Eugene Country Club in Oregon. His final-round of 2-over-par 73 left him at 7-over 291, 14 strokes behind the winner, Andrew Putnam of University Place, Wash.

Michael Harrington of Colorado Springs finished in a tie for 45th at 298 after a final-round 73. Wyndham Clark of Greenwood Village shot a 75 and fell to a tie for 60th with a 302 total.
