AT THE MOVIES

Quirky adaptation

It’s a contest: “You invite idiots to dinner and make fun of them?” “Yep.” And there you have the plot. “Dinner for Schmucks” is Steve Carell’s latest goofball laugh-fest. Paul Rudd plays the executive who brings the ultimate moron (Carell) to the dinner in hopes of scoring a promotion in this remake of a French farce. PG-13.

Charlie’s other angel

“Charlie St. Cloud” (Zac Efron) is devastated by the death of his little brother, Sam. After Sam dies, Charlie sees his ghost and promises to be there for him forever. The locals assume he’s gone ’round the bend. What could possibly make Charlie leave his loss behind and choose to live again? A girl, of course. PG-13.

HOMEBODIES

It’s all Greek to them

“Clash of the Titans,” now on DVD, is about the epic journey of Zeus’ son, who tries to save mere mortals from the evils of the underworld. Starring Sam Worthington, Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes. PG-13.

No invitation necessary?

After a stint at a mental hospital, Anna is healing from her mother’s death. But when her dad’s new girlfriend raises suspicions about what really happened the night her mother died, and ghostly children begin sending her warnings, Anna’s sanity is again in question. Who’s behind these “Uninvited” occurrences? PG-13. Monnie Nilsson, The Denver Post
