Traffic in the area of Wadsworth Boulevard and U.S. Highway 285 will experience delays and detours tonight and tomorrow because of bridge work.

Workers will install girders for a new Wadsworth Boulevard bridge over the highway and the work will shut down Wadsworth Boulevard and the west lanes of U.S. 285, the Colorado Department of Transportation said in a media release.

One lane of westbound U.S. 285 will be closed starting at 7 p.m. with all lanes west lanes closing at 9 p.m. The highway should reopen at 5:30 a.m. A detour for the highway closure will use on and off-ramps at Wadsworth Boulevard.

Meanwhile, one lane of northbound and southbound Wadsworth Boulevard will be closed starting at 7 p.m. with all lanes closing at 9 p.m. All lanes of Wadsworth should reopen at 5:30 a.m. Detours on Wadsworth in both directions will be posted.

Major delays are expected in the area and drivers should take alternate routes if possible.

The girder installation and other upcoming work, including bridge demolition, are part of a safety and mobility improvement project on U.S. 285 between Federal Boulevard and Kipling Street.

The $40.1 million project will reconstruct three bridges among other improvements.
