ArtAspen weekend fair features high-end works
Aspen already boasts an international classical-music festival, top-notch contemporary art museum and premier food and wine extravaganza. So, why not a high-end art fair?
That appears to be the thinking of the Hamptons Expo Group, which presents similar events in San Francisco and the Hamptons. The firm is set to debut ArtAspen this weekend.
The event at the Aspen Ice Garden will feature 28 galleries from 18 cities, displaying modern and contemporary artworks priced from $2,000 to $2 million.
“We think Aspen is a sophisticated, interesting town with sophisticated, interesting people, and they deserve a sophisticated, interesting art fair,” said director Max Fishko.
It also doesn’t hurt that some of the country’s elite art collectors have homes in the mountain town.
Fishko is conservatively projecting an attendance of 3,000 for this inaugural show.
“We’re putting on the best show we can put on and we’re making it as visible as we can make it, and we’re going to see who shows up,” he said.
