A flash flood watch continues for most of southern and central Colorado until midnight, the National Weather Service said Thursday afternoon.
Heavy rain in recent days has saturated the ground and increased the risk of flash flooding from showers and thunderstorms, forecasters said.
Weather conditions in many areas of the state are conducive for quick-developing thunderstorms capable of dropping up to 2 inches of rain in western Colorado, according to the National Weather Service.
Forecasters said people traveling in the back country, especially in canyon lands, should monitor local weather conditions and use caution.
The metro region as a 30 percent chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms before midnight. There is just a 10 to 20 percent chance of rain in Denver on Friday, with a forecast high of 88 degrees.
The high on Saturday could reach 97 degrees before cooling off to about 91 degrees Sunday, forecasters said.
The average daily high temperature for Denver in August is 86 degrees.
