GRAND JUNCTION — A second Grand Junction police officer has resigned amid a department investigation into allegations that a group of officers damaged transients’ property with pepper spray.
Police Chief John Camper told The Grand Junction Daily Sentinel on Friday the officer resigned for personal reasons and that his role in the case had not yet been determined. The officer had been on paid leave for unrelated reasons. Another officer who was also questioned in the case resigned last month.
Camper said four officers have been questioned as part of an investigation into whether officers improperly used pepper spray on some sleeping bags and other items at a campsite used by transients.
The department would not release the names of officers who were investigated.
