At least nine people have been transported to area hospitals following an accident early this afternoon at the intersection of South Wadsworth Boulevard and West Jefferson Avenue.

The intersection is about 75 yards south of U.S. 285 and is surrounded by many businesses, including popular restaurants.

Nate Reid, spokesman for the Colorado State Patrol, said that a Suburban, northbound on Wadsworth, ran a red light and slammed into two cars that were turning from West Jefferson Avenue to southbound Wadsworth.

Reid said that the female driver of the Suburban and four children in the Suburban were transported to Swedish Medical Center.

Also transported to Swedish was the driver of one of the cars turning with the light onto southbound Wadsworth.

Reid said that a woman and two children in the third car were taken to Porter Adventist Hospital.

Reid said none of the injuries appear to be life-threatening.
