The University of Colorado Hospital has voluntarily suspended live-donor liver transplants after a South Dakota man died this month, just days after donating part of his liver to his brother.

“We’re pushing the pause button to see what happened,” hospital spokeswoman Erika Matich said.

Ryan Arnold, 34, of Watertown, S.D., died four days after the transplant for his 38-year-old brother, Chad Arnold of Castle Rock.

Ryan was recovering at the hospital when he went into cardiac arrest July 31 and was put on life support, then died Aug. 2, according to KVDR-TV Fox31, which had been working on a feature story about the brothers leading up to the transplant.
