An intense fire that destroyed a large outdoor pavilion at a Broomfield city park Thursday night has been termed suspicious by investigators from North Metro Fire Rescue.

The fire at Broomfield’s 9-acre Northmoor Park, 1310 Birch St., was reported to 911 dispatchers about 9:30 p.m., according to Wendy Forbes, spokeswoman for the fire district.

When firefighters arrived at the scene, the pavilion and adjacent restrooms were engulfed in flames.

The structures, valued at about $45,000, were a complete loss, Forbes said.

“There is no way they can be salvaged. They are going to have to be torn down,” she said.
