DENVER—About 220 children received free eye, dental and hearing exams, along with backpacks and lunches, at an annual health fair for homeless kids in Denver.

The Homeless Back to School Health Fair on Saturday was supported by volunteers, donors and grants.

The Colorado Coalition for the Homeless estimates there are about 3,000 homeless children in Denver.

Colorado has the 18th-largest percentage of children living in poverty in the country, and it had one of the fastest-growing rates of child poverty between 2000 and 2008, according to a 2010 report by the Colorado Children’s Campaign, a policy advocacy group.
