A 56-year-old man who admitted abusing a disabled 60-year-old woman and stealing her money was given the maximum possible sentence, 28 years, by a Denver judge today.
Richard Lee Straw pleaded guilty June 22 to second-degree assault on an at-risk adult and theft from an at-risk adult, both felonies, according to the Denver District Attorney’s Office.
The abuse and thefts occurred over several months, before a bank teller alerted authorities after becoming suspicious of Straw.
Straw has a long arrest record, including charges of domestic violence, burglary and theft, according to court records.
He has been held on $100,000 bond since his arrest in February, records show.
