Grand Junction football will remain on restriction as the season starts, barring the team from postseason play. But CHSAA commissioner Paul Angelico said the restriction is expected to be lifted at an executive committee meeting in October, freeing the program for the playoffs.
The program was placed on restriction after eighth-graders participated in workouts with the team this spring, a violation of CHSAA bylaws.
The school updated handbooks and planned to educate coaches to ensure the violation doesn’t happen again.
“It will come back in October and they didn’t see any issues in what was proposed,” Angelico said. “It just doesn’t make sense to remove it that quickly. They’ve just got it on the back-burner.”
