MESA, Ariz. — Police have arrested a man accused of assuming the identity of an Arizona soldier stationed in Iraq.

Mesa police say 21-year-old Richard L. Schrodt was taken into custody Monday and booked on suspicion of identity theft and forgery. They say Schrodt and Richard Burke were high school acquaintances and looked alike, helping Schrodt obtain a duplicate of Burke’s driver’s license.

Burke’s mother notified police after her son discovered that $6,000 was missing from his bank account and that someone was trying to buy a new truck using his name. Schrodt was arrested at a Mesa apartment that police say he rented under Burke’s name. The Associated Press
