A man who allegedly tortured his housemate for more than four hours on July 25 was charged with attempted first-degree murder on Monday by Denver District Attorney Mitch Morrissey.

The suspect, 38-year-old Corey Allen Bush, was originally charged with kidnapping, assault on an at-risk adult and felony menacing.

On Monday, prosecutors added counts of attempted first-degree murder and aggravated robbery, said Lynn Kimbrough, spokeswoman for the Denver district attorney’s office.

Bush is still facing the menacing and assault counts on an at-risk adult, but the kidnapping charge was dropped, said Kimbrough.

The 61-year-old housemate told police that during the four hours, Bush shocked him with a stun gun, slapped him with a fixed-blade knife, poured lacquer thinner over his head and threatened to set him on fire, first waving a lighter near him, then a lighted roofing torch.

The victim, who was bound in a chair, said that as Bush slapped him with the knife, he told him he was going to cut him up and feed him to his dog.

Bush’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 24.
