Furniture Row Racing re-signed Regan Smith to drive the team’s No. 78 Chevrolet in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series through the 2012 season, the Colorado-based team announced Thursday.
Smith, the 2008 Sprint Cup rookie of the year, is running a full schedule this season after racing a partial one last season, his first with the team. Furniture Row will maintain a full schedule in 2011 and 2012.
“Regan is a young, talented driver with an outstanding future,” team general manager Joe Garone said. “The contract extension does indeed express a serious commitment by both the race team and driver.”
DU volleyball team favored to win Sun Belt West.
The University of Denver volleyball team is picked win its fifth Sun Belt Conference West Division title under coach Beth Kuwata, according to the preseason poll of league coaches. The Pioneers return three starters, including Kacie Wikierak, the preseason defensive player of the year.
‘Pokes vs. Utah St. football series set.
The University of Wyoming signed a deal to play a four-game football series vs. Utah State. The Cowboys visit Logan, Utah, on Oct. 8, 2011, with the Aggies visiting Laramie in 2014. Utah State hosts in 2015, then Wyoming in 2016.
