The Boulder County district attorney’s office is warning consumers about a phone scam that claims to be associated with the Social Security Administration.
Consumers on Thursday called the district attorney’s office to report receiving calls from people claiming that a new Social Security card is going to be issued that will cover vision and dental needs. The callers state that they need the consumer’s bank routing information and Social Security number, according to the district attorney’s office.
The new calls come on the heels of this week’s flood of fraudulent calls claiming that credit and debit cards have been compromised.
Boulder District Attorney Stan Garnett said that “under no circumstances” should anyone provide their personal or financial information to an unknown caller without checking it out. Garnett also urged people to contact those who may be vulnerable to such calls and pass along the warning. The Daily Camera
