Matt Joe Weber, 30, an Arvada man accused of knifing a man to death outside a bar early Sunday, made his first appearance in court Thursday.

Weber is accused of first-degree murder in the death of Matias Mondragon, 31, of Rancho De Taos, N.M., who died of a single knife wound after a fight at the Night Owl Lounge in Broomfield.

Weber told police Mondragon picked a fight with him and a friend, using a gay slur. But Shaundra Fuqua, 39, who accompanied Mondra gon to the bar, said it was Weber and his friend, Mathew Bufe, 25, who started the fight when they realized that Mondragon was gay.
