LEXINGTON, Neb.—A Nebraska jail inmate who authorities say fled custody while at a hospital and was later apprehended in Colorado has pleaded guilty to escape.

Jacob Wolsleben entered his plea Friday in Dawson County Court, and a sentencing hearing was scheduled for Oct. 7. The 26-year-old faces up to five years in prison.

Court documents say Wolsleben ran from the Lexington hospital on July 24 when he was freed from handcuffs to wash his hands during an exam. He was apprehended five days later after a store clerk in eastern Colorado recognized the tattoo on his leg.

Before his escape, Wolsleben was being held in Dawson County on several charges out of Buffalo, Dawson and Lincoln counties, including burglary and writing bad checks.
