DENVER—In a story Aug. 30 about Xcel Energy’s SmartGridCity project, The Associated Press, relying on information from Xcel Energy, reported erroneously that the project helped avert 63 outages in Boulder last year. Xcel Energy now says transformer overloading outages were reduced by 25 percent in Boulder last year due to the monitoring equipment installed on the system, but it did not specify the reduced number of outages. Xcel spokesman Tom Henley says 63 refers to the number of outages Xcel estimates it would have avoided had the open grid technology and monitoring equipment been installed on all transformers in Colorado.
