Don’t look now, but Danny Spond should be one of a very few true freshman at Notre Dame who should play Saturday against Purdue. Because of injuries, the former Columbine High quarterback is No. 2 at inside linebacker for the Irish. Said Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly earlier this week: “For somebody that is not physically ready to play championship-level football, he can make up for it in his awareness of how to use his hands and how to be in a good leveraged position.”
Austin Jones, Nebraska: The junior from Smoky Hill has given the Huskers depth at I-back the past two seasons after joining the program as a walk-on. He has been getting more reps this fall.
