COMMERCE CITY, Colo.—England rugby player Danny Cipriani has been booting around a different kind of ball as he trains with the Colorado Rapids of Major League Soccer.
Cipriani joined the Rapids this week to get in some workouts at altitude and to “engage in competitive sessions,” Rapids coach Gary Smith told the team’s website. Smith added that Cipriani is friends with members of the coaching staff.
The 22-year-old Cipriani accepted an offer with the Melbourne Rebels earlier this year to join the new Super 15 franchise. He was told by England team manager Martin Johnson that he won’t be picked for next year’s World Cup if he’s playing in the southern hemisphere.
Cipriani has been bothered by injuries since his debut with England two years ago.
