FORT CARSON, Colo.—A Fort Carson soldier from Nebraska who was killed in Afghanistan has been posthumously promoted.

The Defense Department said Friday that 24-year-old Mark A. Noziska of Papillon, Neb., was promoted from second lieutenant to first lieutenant.

Noziska was killed by an improvised bomb on Monday in Afghanistan.

Also killed was 34-year-old Staff Sgt. Casey J. Grochowiak (gruh-ho-zee-ack) of Lompoc, Calif.

Both were assigned to the 1st Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division at the post south of Colorado Springs.
