Jason Giambi, when asked before the game about facing a rookie pitcher he had never seen: “Doesn’t matter to me. He’s got to throw it over the plate.” And when Cory Luebke did, Giambi was ready. Giambi’s two-run homer in the second, on a first-pitch fastball, was his first since June 23 and his first of the season against a left-hander. Giambi has four homers, including a three-run shot and two two-run shots.
Deep thoughts.
Troy Tulowitzki also hit a two-run shot, giving the Rockies their first multi-homer road game since Aug. 7 at Pittsburgh. They had gone 13 consecutive roadies without a multi-homer game.
Extra credit.
Carlos Gonzalez had a 10-game streak snapped in which he had collected at least one extra-base hit. CarGo had 13 extra-base hits — five doubles, two triples and six home runs — during the streak.
