A woman was killed about 4 p.m. today near Georgetown Lake when the Jeep she was in fell from 1,200 to 1,300 feet, according to the Colorado State Patrol.
The woman was driving her Jeep on a rocky dirt Forest Service road that goes up a mountain near the lake when her Jeep fell off the road, said John Hahn, spokesman with the state patrol.
The woman was ejected from the vehicle as it rolled numerous times down the mountain.
A man who was with the woman, but not in the Jeep at the time, was injured when he tried to climb down the mountain to assist her.
He was transported to the hospital with unknown injuries.
The woman and the man have not been identified.
It is unclear at this point whether the road is a restricted access path, or what the woman and man were doing in the area.
Hahn said another trooper who was called to the scene was not able to reach the site driving his 4-wheel drive vehicle and had to use an all-terrain vehicle.
Colorado State Patrol is still on scene attempting to recover the body of the woman, and investigating the cause of the accident.
